I couldn't help but echo Lissa's fantastic Rule of Six which very closely parallels the Charlotte Mason philosophy of the three most important things to include in your child's day which are:
1) somethng to love,
2)something to think about, and
3) something to do.
( I actually believe as Lissa also said, that this came from an interpretation of Karen Andreola's in her splendid Charlotte Mason Companion ( a book which I return to every year, on and off). Here is Lissa's list which is located in her left-sidebar at The Lilting House with several articles included as to how and why she came about her brilliant list:
Six Things to Include in Your Child's Day:
• meaningful work
• imaginative play
• good books
• beauty (art, music, nature)
• ideas to ponder and discuss
• prayer
I LOVE this!! As a primarily pure Charlotte Mason style home schooler, this is exactly what we intend with our days, to include all these lovely things!! It's just that SOME days don't always go as planned, but if we are able to embrace these ideas it'll be like a checks and balances system without being too structured or rigid. It covers all the bases, and when those days come around and I feel like we haven't accomplished enough academically, I will rest more easily if we are able to incorporate this Rule into our days! Thanks Lissa, it's just what I needed for our New Year!
