Caught your attention there didn't it!!
We are off and running with a Volcanoes Unit here at the Preschool Learning Corner! While Violet is pondering Insects for Science and Nature Study ala Charlotte Mason, Seamus and Matthias are gearing up for some great Earth Science studies: Seamus is going to focus on Volcanoes, while Matthias is delving into all things Earth related. He has spent the first half of his year creating a spectacular Space and Planets Notebook, and now wants to move on to the Home Planet!!
A few books we're discovering for Volcanoes this week are:
Hill of Fire (book and Reading Rainbow Video) by Thomas P. Lewis
Earthquakes and Volcanoes by Laurence Santrey
VOLCANOES: Natural Disasters by Michele Ingber Drohan
How Mountains are Made: A Let's Read and Find Out Science Book by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld
Volcano: The Erupting of Mt. St. Helens by Patricia Lauber (This actually erupted on my birthday!)
The Visual Dictionary of the EARTH: DK Eyewitness Visual Dictionary
Usborne Children's Enyclopedia by Jane Elliott (nice one page spread on Volcanoes & Earthquakes)
The Earth Science Book by Dinah Zikes (great Experiments in this one!)
The Magic School Bus Blows Its Top Video
Some links to Volcano sites (I'm sure there are thousands!):
Volcanoes (Unit Study site)
Whew, I could probably keep going here, but with Lent beginning this week, we'll have enough to read and discover with what we have here!!
Thanks for visiting us in the Preschool Learning Corner, have a great day and as always, blessings to you and you families!!

Meredith, your Volcano unit looks wonderful. We did a mini one two weeks ago and my ds5 loved it! Although he was very disappointed when he realized that we aren't close enough to any to actually go and see one!

hi, Meredith. My volcano fan here (age 7) also recommends the DK Volcano video. "Why Do Volcanoes Blow Their Tops?" (by Melvin Berger?) is another good one. "Hill of Fire," which you mention, is another one we like!
