Scenes from around the learning room this past week ~
A convergence of lego troops from many "ports of call at the geography station!
A little beauty from Violet for Botany. She claims she's pining for Spring already...aah, her mother's daughter indeed :)
Seamus' new hat and mittens I knit for him this Christmas, and yeah, it's that chilly in our attic learning room some mornings! (please ignore the ends waiting to be woven on the mittens, I had a deadline, and I met it!)
A possible book selection for Matthias. It's from the Ambleside Year 6 rotation, thought it looked good for my eleven year old!
An in-progress oil pastel still-life on Violet's desk! She's really enjoying the Impressionist's series and activities! Seamus tried his hand a it too, but wouldn't let me post it ;-)
Heard ~ Other than Sean-Paul's cuteness on the Holy Name of Jesus, I have heard mostly discussions from the younger boys on how the Lego pirates and Buzz lightyear are going to take over the star ships and droid patrols.
On seeing dinner placed in front of him tonight, Sean-Paul exclaimed, "Mommy, this dinner is amazing!" (aahh, the praise of a four year old son, music to my ears :)
Books Read, In progress and Read-Alouds this past week or so ~
Emily's Quest ~ Violet, finished today.
Marlfox ~ Matthias currently reading.
The Boxcar Children ~ Seamus' read! The first in this memorable series. All of our Boxcars collected by Matthias and Violet over the years were gifted to their brother Seamus this Christmas and he's overjoyed that he can READ them himself, yippeee!!!
Reading Aloud to Sean-Paul ~ The Adventures of Reddy Fox (somehow I think he identifies with this fiesty character), many Elsa Beskow books - favorites right now are: Peter's Old House, The Children of the Forest, Peter and Lotta's Christmas (super cute).
On my nightstand ~ Desperately trying to finish Emily of New Moon (if only I could read faster and stay awake longer), it's so delicious I don't want to hurry through it, but now that Violet has finished Emily's Quest I am itching to get done and start the next one in this delightful series by LM Montgomery.
In the queue ~ (sorry for no links, ran out of time tonight, it's Game Night!)
Matthias ~ Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (Verne)
Violet ~ SOS Titanic, working through the last few stories of the Louisa May Alcott Christmas Treasury, listening to Eulalia.
Me ~ Strangers and Sojourners (O'Brien), Emily's Quest....
Sean-Paul ~ Most likely another Thomas Burgess as he really enjoys these among many other picture book selections!
Seamus ~ We're finishing The Mitchell's Five for Victory right now and don't know what his next choice will be....
Hope your first week of the new year has been profitable! Many blessings to you all as you continue your journey of learning and loving your children.

can't help but love all the legos. and you know i'm always impressed by violet's artistic abilities.
curious minds want to know, though, what are those little bird pictures next to the penrod book?

Violet is very talented! And I had to laugh at your ends. I think the tell tale sign of hand knitted anything is that the ends are sticking out somewhere. Mine always are. :) My 5yo received Ollie's Ski Trip for Christmas - what a perfect winter read!

I sooooo wish I had learned to knit!!!!! I enjoy keeping up with Violet and seeing what she's up to...always doing something very creative! Your family's 'reads' and music selections are amazing. And of course I love the lego creations as well!
