The Best Kind of Mail....

....is the one you receive from a friend!!

 

I received this beautiful quilt block from the very fun and loving Margaret (Minnesota Mom) and it's the 10th of my quilt blocks for the Virtual Quilting Bee we started back in January 2009. There are 16 quilt blocks total for each participant and since Violet is also part of our group the final two are my own and Violet's. That means there are only four left to receive.

I am so pleased and happy to have such lovely women sending me all their creativity and beauty in a quilt block, it will be a sad day when our VQB is finished...There have been many friendships forged and deepened with this experience, I highly recommend it :)

Hope your Saturday is going well, I'm off to declutter my school desk.

By the way, how do you de-clutter??? My method is to take EVERYTHING off the surface area I am working on and start from scratch, much easier for me to start with a clean slate and not continue the clutter by just rearraning the chaos on top of itself!

It's my month for sending out fabric for the VBQ!!

Isn't this lovely, it's going to become my garden for Mary quilt....

Can't wait to see what all the other delightful ladies will send back with their own special touches in each of their blocks!

It's Finished, Violet's Beautiful Quilt!!

From the very first patch she embroidered three years ago...to the finished product:

(Notice the pink blankie gracing her top pillow, that was a shower gift from a friend, it's 11 years old and still in perfect caressing condition, like only a blankie can be! 

Our dear friend and Godmother to Sean-Paul helped us piece it all together (Ok, well she did most of it) and I finished sewing the binding on by hand this afternoon, while Violet worked on a new embroidery project involving a pillowcase and lots of pansies and sunflowers!! 

It was wonderful working quietly together and listening to the last few chapters of Sign of the Beaver on CD while Sean-Paul napped.  She immediately wanted to throw off her comforter and place her new creation on her bed.  At long last my sweet Violet has a homemade quilt all her own. One that she was inspired to create with a little mommy encouragement!!

Violet's 1st Quilt & Embroidery

This is Violet's (and My) first quilt together!!!  She has worked on the beautiful embroidery squares of "Sun Bonnet Sue" over the past year and finished ALL 12, all by herself!!  I am SOO proud of her, and she has just done a super job with her stitching! 

So now I've sewn border frames around each of her embroidery squares and that is the point we have come to now.  I wanted so much to show it off.  It's going to be so sweet and such a treasure for her!  It has truly been an wonderful mother and daughter project and will probably be ongoing for another month or so unless I can get more done before we move!  Please click on the photo to see up a little more closely and enjoy! 

We're planning to sew strips between each of the framed blocks with some beautiful pale green calico with pastel polka dots throughout and use this as the backing as well.  It matches with her bedding and bedroom decor and I think it will be lovely!  Quilting has been a joy and we look forward to more projects together.  I can see now why the pioneer women enjoyed this wonderful handicraft so much.
